How to Choose Your Ceremony Music

Let me begin with a little reassurance: there is no right or wrong way to have a wedding ceremony. The most beautiful weddings are the ones that reflect the couple getting married and my job is to help you create a soundtrack that fits.  Close your eyes and picture yourself walking down the aisle. If it makes you emotional or gets you excited, that might be “it”!! It’s your story, told with your music!

A Few Questions to Get You Started

Instead of asking, "What songs should I pick?" try asking yourself:

Do I want my ceremony to feel:

✨ Romantic and dreamy?

✨ Elegant and timeless?

✨ Joyful and celebratory?

✨ Modern and meaningful?

✨ A little bit of all of the above?

Once you know the feeling you're trying to create, the song choices become much easier.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the options, don't worry. Share your vision with me and I’ll put it all together. That's why I'm here. I'll help you choose music that feels natural, personal, and perfectly suited to your wedding day. 🌿🎶

Because years from now, when you hear those songs again, I want them to bring you right back to that moment when you saw each other and thought, "This is it." 💕

Your processional music provides the soundtrack for some of the most memorable moments of your ceremony. Before choosing your songs, let's look at the typical order of entrances for family members, the wedding party, and, of course, the bride. Each musical selection helps tell your story.

Wedding Processional Order

Please note: Every wedding is unique. Use this as a guide, then make it your own.

1a. Officiant, Groom & Best Man

The officiant, groom, and best man enter (in that order) and take their places at the wedding arch/altar.

1b. Officiant, Groom, Best Man & Groomsmen

The officiant, groom, best man, and groomsmen enter (in that order) and take their places at the wedding arch/altar.

2. Groom's Parents

The groom's parents walk down the aisle together and take their seats on the right side of the ceremony space.

3. Mother of the Bride

The mother of the bride may walk down the aisle on her own or be escorted by a family member. She then takes her seat in the front row on the left side.

4a. Wedding Party

The bridesmaids and groomsmen walk down the aisle in pairs. Upon reaching the wedding arch/altar, they separate and take their places on their respective sides.

4b. Wedding Party

The groomsmen enter one at a time and take their places at the wedding arch/altar. The bridesmaids then enter individually and do the same.

5. Maid or Matron of Honor

The maid or matron of honor enters last and takes her place next to where the bride will stand.

6. Ring Bearer and/or Flower Girl

Traditionally, the ring bearer and/or flower girl enter just before the bride. They may join the wedding party or sit with family members after reaching the front.

7. Bride & Escort

Finally, the moment everyone has been waiting for! The bride makes her grand entrance accompanied by her chosen escort. Traditionally, this is the bride's father, but the bride may choose anyone meaningful to walk with her down the aisle.

*Note: Don’t worry about walking exactly on the beat or timing everything to a specific recording. The beauty of having me play live means that I can time the songs to you! I will watch as you and your loved ones make your way down the aisle and end the music when you get to your spots for the ceremony. I can loop sections of songs to make them longer, cut sections out to make them shorter, and even turn an up-tempo song into a slow, beautiful ballad.

Prelude Music

Welcome music begins about 30 minutes before the ceremony starts. As your guests arrive and take their seats, beautiful harp music sets the tone for the celebration ahead.

Choose 10 to 12 pieces for 30 minutes of music.
